may tveit selected to attend art omi international artists residency program

Kansas City based artist and 2002 Charlotte Street Visual Artist Award Fellow May Tveit has been selected by Art Omi’s selection panel to attend Art Omi International Artists Residency Program in June/July 2010.  Tveit is the sixth Kansas City based artist selected to attend Art Omi through a partnership between Charlotte Street Foundation and Art Omi launched in 2004. Through this partnership, one CSF Visual Artist Award Fellow per year is awarded a slot at the prestigious program, where they work alongside other selected artists from around the world and gain access to prominent visiting critics, curators, gallerists, and artists. This year’s critic-in-residence, on hand to lead discussions and make one-on-one studio visits, is Sandra Skurvida, an independent curator and historian based in New York City.

bd collier presents “on the impact of flying carp,” a multimedia presentation saturday may 8, 7:30pm at la esquina

On Saturday, May 8, 7:30 pm at la Esquina, 1000 West 25th Street, BD Collier, Founder and President of The Society for a Re-Natural Environment, will give a multi-media presentation titled, “On the Impact of Flying Carp.” The presentation, free and open to the public, will address the natural history of invasive Asian carp, their impact on North American waterways, and possible solutions to the problem. The presentation will focus primarily on the silver or flying carp whose population has been rapidly expanding in mid-western waterways since the 1980’s and the threat they pose to the Great Lakes ecosystem.

BD Collier is a re-naturalist, educator and artist. As Founder and President of the Society for a Re-Natural Environment he gives presentations, creates exhibitions, and engages in sanctioned and unsanctioned public works to increase understanding of and connection to the non-human natural world. He also works to educate people about how humans have shaped the ecosystems they live in. Collier  has exhibited widely in the U.S. and abroad including: Neues Museum Weserberg Bremen, in Germany; Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art; Centro de Desarrollo de las Artes Visuales, Havana, Cuba; University of Houston; 60 Wall Gallery, Deutsche Bank NYC; University of Kansas Natural History Museum and Paragraph Gallery in Kansas City, MO. Collier’s work has been written about in numerous publications including: Art in America, The New York Times, Afterimage, Orion: Nature, Culture, Place, Domus, and Art Papers Magazine. He earned his MFA from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He currently lives and works in Bloomington, IL.

Charlotte Street Foundation is seeking qualified, motivated, creative, detail-oriented, responsible applicants for the positions of: 1) Marketing, Communications & Digital Assets Coordinator (half-time) & 2) Preparator/Facilities Manager (3/4 time).

CSF’s Marketing, Communications & Digital Assets Coordinator will be responsible for implementing CSF’s marketing efforts (both print and web-based), coordinating its artist application processes, and managing its media and photo/video documentation archive.  Download complete job description, desired qualifications, and details.

CSF’s Preparator/Facilities Manager will be responsible for the day to day management, operation, and maintenance of its Urban Culture Project exhibition and performance spaces and Studio Residency Program facilities, including coordination and oversight of installation and deinstallation processes with exhibiting and performing artists and serving as day to day liaison to studio resident artists.
