10 Year Book

Showcasing the work of 56 visual artists recognized with unrestricted cash grants from the Charlotte Street Foundation (CSF) from 1997 through 2006, 10 is testimony to the mission of the Charlotte Street Foundation: to support and recognize outstanding Kansas City artists and the cultural richness and vitality they bring to our city.

Released in September 2007, 10 features:

  • two-page, full-color spreads on each of the 56 awarded artists
  • an introduction by Charlotte Street Founder/Director David Hughes
  • commissioned essays by New York writer Peter von Zegeiser and artist Matt Wycoff that explore the character and evolution of Kansas City’s art community and the role the Charlotte Street Foundation has played within it
  • texts about each artist by curators and critics including Jan Schall, Sanders Sosland Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art, Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art; David Cateforis, Professor of Art History, University of Kansas; James Martin, art consultant; Stacy Switzer, Artistic Director, Grand Arts; Raechell Smith, Director, H&R Block Artspace at Kansas City Art Institute; Heather Lustfeldt, independent critic and curator; Elizabeth Kirsch, art historian; Mark Spencer, Hallmark Fine Art Collection, Hallmark; and Kate Hackman, Associate Director, Charlotte Street Foundation
  • an Artist Index with biographical information, exhibition histories, and bibliographies for all artists, along with their portraits.

10 was edited by Michelle Bolton King, Bolton King Communications and former Marketing Communications Manager for the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art, and designed by Mary Lou Brous, Global Brand Visual Identity Manager for Accenture and former Joyce C. Hall Distinguished Professor of Design at the Kansas City Art Institute. The 176 page book was printed in an edition of 3500.
