Town Hall Meeting

September 29, 2007, marked the inaugural gathering of KC Artist LINC.  Held at the Leedy-Voulkos Art Center in the Crossroads Arts District in Kansas City, this Town Hall meeting was organized to accomplish the following:

  • Convene a listening day with a representative sample of Kansas City artists to help KC Artist LINC do the right things to support the region’s artists
  • Hear and capture as much thinking from artists as possible about their wants and their needs
  • Share the best and most successful ideas from other LINC sites as to what might be possible here
  • Provide an opportunity for artists to meet and network
  • Provide an opportunity for artists to share their priorities for the future, and how they would like to work with KC Artist LINC to imagine together a perfect scenario for artists’ services and support

This first gathering attracted 122 individuals – artists and people who care deeply about the future of artists in Kansas City. Results included a wealth of helpful, passionate, compelling and constructive ideas to make Kansas City a better place for artists to live and work. The day marked the start of what will be a long-term effort to help artists of every discipline in Kansas City not just survive, but thrive.
