Visual Arts Consortium

In 2004, the Charlotte Street Foundation convened a group of 40 leaders in the arts community - artists and arts professionals – to begin working together to foster and improve the personal and professional lives of artists and arts professionals living in the Greater Kansas City area.

This leadership group gathered for an extensive and creative planning session to generate a list of proposed projects and activities which the arts leaders felt would most help artists and arts professionals in Kansas City. Then, in order to test these ideas on the wider arts community, a survey was created and distributed to other members of the arts community to gain their input and feedback.

The resulting document, titled Twenty-Six Big Ideas for the Visual Arts in Kansas City,” sets an agenda for initiatives to most support the community’s continued growth toward becoming a thriving magnet for artists and arts professionals. Promoted to civic, business and philanthropic leaders as well as others in the art community, the document is now informing the work of individual organizations and institutions as well as collective efforts.
