Art Omi

Art Omi International Residency

In 2005, the Charlotte Street Foundation added a new component to the Awards program. Through relationships developed by the Charlotte Street Foundation as a result of its Urban Culture Project programming, Philip Gesue, a representative of Time Equities real estate, facilitated and raised partial funding (supplemented by funds raised by the Charlotte Street Foundation) for one past Charlotte Street Award recipient per year to participate in Art Omi, a highly respected international artists residency program in Upstate New York. All past Award recipients are invited to submit applications to Art Omi, with one spot guaranteed for a Charlotte Street artist.

Artists selected to attend the residency have the opportunity to work alongside other serious artists from around the world and to gain feedback from a renowned group of visiting artists, critics and curators who visit the program each year. The opportunity live and work in peaceful surroundings yet interact with the contemporary art world produces a unique atmosphere of creativity and dialogue among artists coming from as far away as Nigeria and as close as Brooklyn.

The Charlotte Street Foundation solicits applications from all interested past Awards recipients, and then forwards the materials to Art Omi, whose selection panel chooses the resident. Not only does the selected artist benefit from the fully funded residency and professionally curated exhibition, but all applicants have their work viewed by a selection panel comprised of nationally known artists, arts professionals and art collectors.
