Studios - Performing

We are pleased to announce the launch of a new facility as part of UCP’s Studio Residency Program for Kansas City area artists, which provides free studio space with 24-hour access to promising, dedicated artists in need of space in which to work among a community of peer artists.  Located on the 5th Floor at City Center Square, 12th and Main, this new studio venue includes one large open space (approx 3,000 sq. feet) as well as approximately a dozen smaller private studios (each approx. 150 sq. ft.)

UCP intends to allocate the large, open space as a performance studio/rehearsal space, to be shared among a selection of performance-based artists and groups of artists.  It is planned that a schedule, with dedicated weekly time slots for each artist/group of artists, will be collectively established following the selection of artists. In addition to establishing regular studio time slots for each artist/group, it is expected that open blocks of “flex time” may be signed up for on an as needed/desired basis, accommodating special projects and more intensive rehearsal schedules.

Some number of the smaller, lockable studios will serve as storage and prep space for participating performing artists.  The remainder of the smaller studios will be designated for visual artists.  The large space, flanked by large windows along one side, will be furnished with approx. eight 4×8x1ft. units of plywood stage.

Artists/groups of artists working in the realm of performance (music, dance, theater, spoken word, performance art, etc…) are encouraged to apply. Studio residents shall be selected by a curatorial panel through a competitive process. Artists will be granted space for a six month period, with an option to continue for a second six month period if desired, contingent on approval by UCP.
