Studio Residency Program for Visual Artists:

UCP’s competitive Studio Residency Program for Visual Artists, established in 2003, provides free studios with 24-hour access for one year terms to promising Kansas City artists in need of space in which to work. The artists open their studios to the public each Third Friday evening in conjunction with openings at the galleries. In addition, we often bring visiting curators through the studios and present one to two “Studio Focus” exhibitions per year at a UCP gallery, curated or co-curated by artists or arts professionals from the broader community.

UCP’s Studio Residency Program for Visual Artists currently encompasses two facilities: Bonfils, a storefront space on 12th Street between Walnut and Grand - half a block from Paragraph Gallery - which currently houses six artists; and the 13th floor of pARTnership Place in the UMB-owned Ozark Life Building, 906 Grand, launched in 2007, which provides space for seven artists.

In addition, UCP plans to launch a new studio facility at City Center Square, 12th and Main, 5th floor, in August 2009. This facility will provide shared studio/rehearsal space for a selection of performing artsts/groups of performing artists, with several small support/storage spaces.  In addition, we plan to provide a number of small private studios for visual artists, particularly artists working in a multidisciplinary environment, alongside performing artists.

Applications for the Studio Residency Program for Visual Artists are accepted and reviewed twice per year. Next applications are due Feburary 26, 2010. Download an application.
