Studio Residency Program for Visual Artists:

UCP’s competitive Studio Residency Program for Visual Artists, established in 2003, provides free studios with 24-hour access for one year terms to promising Kansas City artists in need of space in which to work. The artists open their studios to the public on select dates. In addition, we often bring visiting artists/curators through the studios and present  “Studio Focus” exhibitions at our nearby UCP galleries, curated or co-curated by artists or arts professionals from the broader community.

UCP’s Studio Residency Program for Visual Artists currently encompasses three facilities: the fifth floor of City Center Square at 1100 Main St. (providing space for 12 visual artists); the sixth floor of Town Pavilion at 1100 Walnut (accomodating approximately 8 visual artists), and the 13th floor of pARTnership Place in the UMB-owned Ozark Life Building, 906 Grand, which provides space for 7 artists.

In addition to providing private studios for visual artists, the City Center Square facility provides shared studio/rehearsal space for a selection of performing artists/groups of performing artists, thus encouraging exchange and collaboration among artists of different disciplines. Artists with a particular interest in working in proximity to performing artists are especially appropriate for studios at this venue.

Applications for the Studio Residency Program for Visual Artists are accepted and reviewed semi-annually. Visit the Opportunities section of this website for upcoming application deadlines and information.
